- No- you are allowed now to bring a lighter on the plane- see the TSA website [tsa.gov], click on the "Read our list of Prohibited items" on the main page, and scroll down to the "Explosive & Flammable Materials, Disabling Chemicals & Other Dangerous Items" section.

- Just so you know, they already charge you for customs- it is included in the price of your international ticket. All international destinations have what are called "landing fees," most of which goes towards processing you through customs.
